Quantum Design Jam Schedule
Friday, October, 1st 6:00 – 10:00 pm
Quantum Design Jam Kick-off
6:00 – 6:30 pm Welcome Session: The New School and IBM Introductions
Knowledge Sessions: IBM facilitated Workshops
6:30 – 8:00 pm Workshop Title: Intro to Quantum Computing for Artists
Facilitators: Russell Huffman & Paul Kassebaum
Every technology has the ability to be used as an artistic medium, and every artistic medium has certain affordances that make for unique creative opportunities.
In this session, Russell and Paul will introduce how quantum computing can be used to create visual art. This session will include a primer of the physics behind quantum computing, how the physics can be exploited for creative expression, and a step by step tutorial that will go all the way to a final composition that uses real quantum systems.
8:10 – 9:40 pm Workshops Title: Composing Quantum Dance Music: A Musical Journey Into Quantum Computing
Facilitators: James Weaver and Brian Ingmanson
Music has often been leveraged to demonstrate new computing technologies. For example, in the 1950s an ILLIAC computer at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign was programmed to compose a string quartet.
In this session, Brian and James will give an introduction to quantum computing, and demonstrate how a quantum computer can collaborate in composing what they call “quantum dance music”. They will then demonstrate how to use the Quantum Music Playground application that leverages a Qiskit quantum computing simulator.
9:40 – 10:00 pm Student Teams Begin Work on Projects
