XR Lab
The XR Lab at The New School is a trailblazing space dedicated to the integration of Extended Reality (XR) technologies with various creative disciplines. It encourages the exploration of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR) within fields like design, social research, and performing arts, sparking innovative projects that lead to influential solutions and novel narratives.
The XR Lab cultivates a vibrant, interactive ecosystem that invites faculty, students, industry and corporate partners, startups, cultural institutions, and policymakers. Together, we generate XR-inspired prototypes, applications, and exhibitions. We enable hands-on experiences and explorations in the exciting world of XR and spatial computing and its implications in creative domains.
Our partnerships have led to groundbreaking projects, including immersive art exhibitions and XR-focused hackathons. The lab promotes cross-disciplinary collaborations through a diverse range of academic programs, XR-centered creative jams, public forums, and scholarly contributions.
Centered at the intersection of immersive storytelling, spatial computing, user-centric design, and ethical inquiry, our efforts aim to extract insights, foresee future narratives, and generate transformative XR-infused products and experiences. Our commitment is to ensure that XR technology is used in a way that enriches our creative endeavors and leaves a positive impact on society.
