Welcome to the XR Lab at the Innovation Center! We offer a range of immersive experiences and educational sessions to help students and faculty explore the potential of Extended Reality (XR) and related immersive technologies. Each class visit combines presentations and hands-on experiences tailored to your course’s needs, offering a unique way to engage with cutting-edge tools and ideas.

Explore the immersive world of XR technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). Our XR sessions are designed to introduce students to the applications, challenges, and innovations driving these technologies.

1. Overview of the XR Industry and Introduction to Immersive Realities

  • Description: This session provides a comprehensive introduction to XR, covering VR, AR, and MR. Students will learn the key concepts and terminology of immersive realities, as well as industry trends.
  • What to Expect: A 25-35 minute presentation followed by a hands-on session where students experience immersive technologies firsthand.
  • Duration: 50-75 minutes for the experiential session.
  • Best suited for: Classes interested in an introduction to the XR field, technology, signature projects, or industry applications.

2. Immersive Projects Overview and Updates

  • Description: Tailored to your course, this session focuses on XR projects that align with the class’s focus or the projects your students are working on. Students will explore current XR applications in various fields.
  • What to Expect: A 25-35 minute presentation followed by an immersive experience where students interact with XR projects relevant to their studies.
  • Duration: 50-75 minutes for the experiential session 
  • Best suited for: Courses looking for insight into current XR projects and their applications.

3. Experiencing Immersive Projects

  • Description: In this hands-on session, students explore XR projects through immersive technologies. The session provides an introduction to various VR, AR, and MR experiences.
  • What to Expect: A brief 15-20 minute introduction followed by a 60-75 minute immersive experience, allowing students to try out multiple XR experiences.
  • Best suited for: Classes wanting a practical, immersive experience with minimal presentation time.

4. Themed XR Workshops

  • Description: Focus on specific themes like “XR in Education,” “XR and Ethical Implications” or “XR in Museums.” Each session introduces XR applications within a particular industry or field, followed by hands-on experiences.
  • What to Expect: A 35 – 45 minute themed presentation and 50 minutes of immersive experiences.
  • Best suited for: Courses that focus on specific industries or fields and want to explore how XR is transforming them.

AR Class Visit Offerings

Augmented Reality (AR) blends the digital and physical worlds, overlaying virtual content onto real environments. Our AR class visit options allow students to explore the potential of AR in various fields and applications.

1. Introduction to Augmented Reality: Concepts and Applications

  • Description: This session introduces the core concepts of AR, explaining its uses and differences from VR. Students explore real-world applications of AR in industries like education, marketing, design, etc.
  • What to Expect: A 40-minute presentation followed by hands-on AR experiences using apps and AR tools on smartphones and tablets.
  • Duration: 50-75 minutes.
  • Best suited for: Classes seeking an introduction to AR and its real-world applications.

2. Creating AR Experiences

  • Description: Dive into the world of Augmented Reality by learning how to create interactive AR experiences using mobile devices. Students will get hands-on experience building their own AR projects.
  • What to Expect: A 45-minute hands-on workshop, followed by a 20-minute creation session where students develop and share their AR projects with the class.
  • Duration: 65-75 minutes.
  • Best suited for: Education and learning-focused classes interested in exploring how AR can enhance interactive teaching and creative engagement.

Custom XR/AR Experiences for Class Visits

  • Description: We can tailor visits to align with the specific themes or topics of your course. In collaboration, we we’ll create a custom set of XR and AR experiences to fit your course or event needs.
  • What to Expect: A custom-designed session with flexible presentation times and hands-on experiences based on your course themes or event focus.
  • Best suited for: Professors or classes looking for a bespoke visit that aligns with their syllabus or research interests.
